Please Note: In this article, I use the term God, however this can be interchanged with any term you feel comfortable with. Please interchange the term God... for Source, Creator, The Universe, Spirit, as you see fit. Thank you.
Perfection Is An Illusion…
If God made us to be perfect in his eyes, in all of our flaws, then that means we are perfect just the way we are. We are perfect in our imperfectness. Therefore, in our search for perfection, we will never find it. Because we are already perfectly imperfect. That means we never had to search outside of ourselves for anything more.
Sometimes we may tell ourselves that we need to wait for the “perfect time.”
We hold ourselves back and say: “I’ll do it at the perfect time...” or “I’ll do it when I’m ready...”
It’s important to discern whether this is a time of solitude & healing or a time of procrastination.
Waiting for "divine timing" does exist and is sometimes necessary. Sometimes we have to take time to prepare ourselves for that next phase in life. However, we can never be 100% ready for anything that comes our lives.
If we are always telling ourselves that we need to wait for the “perfect time” -- that time will never come. We will always keep ourselves in waiting. Keeping ourselves in a literal and metaphorical holding pattern.
At times, what we asked for or prayed for comes in and we may not feel ready at that exact moment it showed up in our life. And we freeze up. We are unintentionally keeping ourselves in a holding pattern when we enter a moment of the freeze response. This holding pattern or freeze response can last for months or even years.
Taking A Leap of Faith & Surrendering
If we have found ourselves in a holding pattern, we must surrender and learn to take that leap of faith. Surrendering means allowing. Surrendering means releasing yourself from that holding pattern and ALLOWING yourself to do what your intuition is calling you to do.
Here is a metaphor to think about:
Imagine freezing / being in a holding pattern like you have been holding your breath on what you are being guided towards. You can’t breathe. You are keeping everything inside or not acting on what your intuition is leading you toward.
Now imagine taking a leap of faith as a long exhale. A leap of faith is like releasing that breath you’ve held inside for so long. As you allow yourself to finally breathe out, you release. You ALLOW yourself to surrender. You allow yourself to breathe out as you release and surrender. You breathe out and allow yourself to say what you always wanted to say or take action toward what you always wanted to do. Allow it.
Let’s look at this in another way via the metaphor of the holding pattern.
Here is a quote from CNN on the definition holding pattern:
“Technically, a holding pattern is a defined area of airspace in which an aircraft enters a circular or racetrack-shaped route that it repeats for a certain period to delay its descent toward the runway. “The aircraft keeps circling until the air traffic controller gives clearance to descend and land,” Sun explains.”
So, if you are feeling frozen and keeping yourself flying around in a holding pattern, you are delaying your landing. Or you are delaying yourself from what you are being guided toward by telling yourself you are waiting for the “perfect time.” You want to land the plane, but you keep yourself stuck in the air circling around your landing. You tell yourself you are waiting for air traffic control to tell you it’s okay to land.
In this metaphor, air traffic control is your intuition, your spirit guides, your higher self. They are telling you that it’s okay to land the plane! They have been telling you that it’s safe to land for some time now. You hear them clearly, but YOU have to tell yourself that it's okay.
Surrendering is finally landing the plane. Allowing. Releasing your grip and control...
Now, where you are landing the plane is the destination of where your soul is leading you. If your heart is telling you to start that business, to start that YouTube channel, to reach out and tell that person how you feel, this is the runway you need to land on. Or the action you need to surrender and go towards. The destination will be different for everybody.
But once you land the plane, you surrender and release yourself from your self-inflicted holding pattern.
You are your own air traffic controller.
The perfect time to land is when you say it is. That’s why there is never a “perfect time” because the perfect time is right now. Taking that leap of faith is landing the plane to your soul’s destination. The perfect time is right now.
Even if you take that leap of faith while feeling afraid, you’ll be happy that you at least tried your best. The phrase that comes to mind is, “shoot for the moon and land among the stars.”
Being Open & Soul Evolution
It is so important that we allow ourselves to be open to self-awareness and realize how we can improve. That we have the discernment to realize when genuine people are sent into our lives to help us to grow and get to the next level in any aspect, spiritually, professionally, personally, etc. Realizing how we can improve and taking actions steps allows us to be open to our soul's evolution.
Remember: Perfection is an Illusion.
Life is constantly changing, evolving and moving. As we are constantly changing and evolving. We are constantly meant to make mistakes and grow from them. So there really are no mistakes, only different steps we took where we grew and learned about ourselves. These steps help us to evolve into a better version of ourselves, but only if we allow it.
In Conclusion: Take That Leap of Faith & Surrender. Life Is a Blank Canvas Meant to Be Painted with Colors Outside of the Lines
While painting unicorn figurines last summer, a wise 7 year old once told me:
“It doesn’t have to be perfect, just have fun.”
I realized I was too caught up on painting “within the lines.” I forgot that life's meant to for us to have fun and paint outside of the lines. We are meant to be abstract, to think, to build, to live and love outside of the box. Everything does not have to make sense in our soul's journey.
Sometimes, we hold ourselves back because we are trying too hard to stay within the lines that we think we are supposed to be in.
Our lives are like a blank canvas, meant to be filled with colors of paint.
God is the blank canvas: perfection, purity, the spirit. But God is also the creation of the colors too.
If we kept the canvas blank in an attempt to achieve the illusion of perfection, we would never create the masterpiece that our life is meant to be. If we never made “mistakes” we would never learn how to be better… If we never land the plane, we would never take the steps forward to our souls calling. If we do not surrender we would never find out what lies on the other side…
What if it turns out to be better than you ever expected?
What if you are successful?
What if you actually took that leap of faith? And as soon as you jump off the cliff, all of your guardian angels, your spirit guides, your higher self, the arms of unconditional love itself, are waiting right there to catch you like an invisible net…
If you knew that you would be caught what would you do?
Know that your intuition will never steer you in the wrong direction. Allow yourself to take a leap of faith. Allow yourself to use your colors to paint the blank canvas that is your life. Allow yourself to land your plane on the runway of the destination your soul is calling you to go. Allow yourself to be perfectly imperfect. Relax into this knowing.
ALLOW.
SURRENDER.
RELEASE.
EXHALE.
Questions to ask yourself or journal about:
What is your heart calling you to do or to say?
How are you holding yourself back? Why are you holding back?
How can you allow yourself to take a leap of faith even if you feel afraid?
How have you tried to achieve perfection?
